The Atkins family are preparing for a unique around-the-world trip, embarking on their journey on a 1987 Leyland Tiger bus.
To some, traveling the world would be just a dream. With work, family and other commitments, it would be impossible to achieve
No so for the Atkins family. They've sold their house, and most of their possessions, in order to prepare for their around the world trip with a difference...
Who are they? The Atkins live in South Barn, Swanage. Dad Joe and mother Manny, and their children, Luke, Arthur, Beth and Harry. The whole family will be taking part on the trip - with home schooling keeping them abreast of their education, while they learn a whole lot more besides on their journey.
Where are they going? The journey takes in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia and Central/North America, with the bus taking the brunt of most of the travelling. For some of the areas, such as Sudan and other unstable nations, a boat will take the family over water, until they can resume their journey on terra firma.
With a little help Even though the family have sold pretty much everything they have, apart from their musical instruments and a few computers, they are not setting out on this adventure with a big pile of money, enough to get round but no more. When we at Thetford heard about Atkins’ around-the-world plans on a bus, we loved to get involved and help out the family by providing them with a free C4 Cassette toilet, the necessary toilet fluids, as well as a Caprice MK3 (hotplate, grill & oven).
